MmmFestival celebrates the restaurant scene in St. Boniface, Norwood Grove and Provencher Boulevard.
February is for food.
Winnipeg’s thriving food culture is bursting with new events, parties and festivals all celebrating our love of a good meal.
Winnipeg’s newest member, mmmFestival, runs Feb 8 to 23 and celebrates the food scene in Winnipeg’s French Quarter, including St. Boniface, Norwood Grove and Provencher Boulevard. Throughout the month, area restaurants are serving specials celebrating Winnipeg’s connection to our Métis and French roots. This new party coincides with Festival du Voyageur, Winnipeg’s annual winter celebration. This year Festival du Voyageur runs Feb. 14 to 28. (More on Festival in an upcoming PCG post.)
MmmFestival is an extension of Festival du Voyageur’s ‘World’s Largest Kitchen Party’ theme. It’s also about spreading that ‘joie de vivre’ throughout the neighbourhood, to its cafés, bistros, bakeries and coffee parlours, says co-organizer Shawn Brandson, owner of Promenade Café and Wine and Gibraltar Dining Corporation.
Diners are encouraged to Tweet their favourite #mmmfestival eats. At the end of the festival, ‘Voyageur’s Choice’ will be awarded to the restaurant with the most mentions.
So far, some of the participating eateries include: Café Postal, Cocobeans Bakeshop, Finales Coffee House, Le Garage Café, Norwood Hotel – Joly Friar, Pasquales Italian Restaurant, Promenade Cafe and Wine and Purple Hibiscus Restaurant.

Dessert Sinsations, a downtown eatery with scratch-made everything, is in the midst of its Global Food Fest. For $28 per person, diners can choose from one of three, three-course meals inspired by the cuisine of India, Russia and the Caribbean. For more details click here. The Global Food Fest runs until Feb. 28.
From Feb. 1 to 11, check out Dine about Winnipeg by Ciao magazine. Twenty-nine participating restaurants are serving special $28 and $36 dinners. The annual event is a great opportunity to splurge on a favourite restaurant or try a new spot. Menus are quite varied and showcase the best of the kitchen. (For my part, I’m heading back to Café Dario and Fusion Grill.) Here’s a link to all the participating restaurants and their menus.
Winnipeg Mardi Gras—a célébration of southern U.S. food, music, food and more food—hosts its annual party Feb. 14 and 15 at the RBC Convention Centre Winnipeg. Oyster Po Boys, deep-fried pickles, paella, fresh oyster and peel-and-eat shrimp will be free flowing, as will the Jack Daniels. Check out this earlier PCG post for all the details.
